Intel® Teach in Action
Intel Foundation Continuation Grant Awarded
NCDPI has been awarded an Intel Teach Continuation Grant for 2009. This grant provides LEAs across NC the opportunity to participate in free Intel Teach Professional Development Workshops. LEAs interested in hosting either an Intel Teach Essentials Course or Intel Teaching Thinking Course should email requests to Mary Lou Daily . Each hosting site in which 15 Master Teacher participants complete their four-day training certification will receive a SMART Board. LEAs that choose to host a workshop for local teachers will be provided funds to pay for substitutes during the training.
There will be two regional workshops scheduled this summer for those smaller LEAs who would like to certify fewer than 15 Master Teachers. Grant funds will provide travel expenses for participants in these regional workshops.
Visit our links to learn more about how Intel Teach can support 21st Century Skill development for your teachers and students. Programs for K-12 Educators, K-12 Administrators
Intel® Teach Essentials Course - The Intel(R) Teach Essentials Version 10 is the latest in the Intel suite of professional development curriculum. A previous version of the curriculum Essentials 3.4; 4.4 and 5.4 has received the ISTE Seal of Alignment. The new curriculum is an extensive rewrite based on evaluations of thousands of teachers by EDC. The new curriculum can be delivered either FTF (32 hours of training) or in an online-hybrid (14 hours FTF; 24 hours facilitated online training over a 6-week period). The goal of the Intel® Teach Essentials Course is to help classroom teachers develop student-centered learning through technology integration and project-based approaches. The training consists of 32 hours of hands-on instruction to be delivered via eight curricular modules. Through those modules, teachers develop a standards-based curricular unit that promotes 21st century skills, specifically encouraging student self-direction and higher-order thinking through problem-solving, collaboration, and the use of productivity strategies and tools.
Intel® Workshop on Teaching Thinking - This workshop is ideally suited for teachers who have taken the Intel® Teach Essentials Course (or a comparable technology integration program). It focuses on enhancing effective technology integration skills using free online tools. Participants engage in hands-on practice using online technology tools to sharpen students' higher-order thinking skills. Teachers also create an instructional plan that promotes higher-order thinking skills, student learning objectives that are aligne to ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students(NET*S) and the NCSOCS. A Curriculum Guide and a Course CD-ROM provides structure and resources for developing the the instructional plan.
Intel® Teach Leadership Forum - This is a 4-hour forum for Instructional Leaders (Superintendents, Principals and District-Wide Curriculum Directors) which asks the Essential Question: How can the leader support teacher effectiveness to improve student achievement? Administrators will promote and support the integration of technology for improved teacher effectiveness and student achievement. This is hands-on workshop in which participants analyze research, Web resources, and standards such as the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS*A). Participants begin the development of a personalized action plan. Support materials are provided for developing the action plan.
